This year, MMSIM will have groups of volunteer students from Intermediate/Advanced Band/Orchestra classes go caroling outside of local businesses in order to fundraise by collecting donations from the public. While some students have already formed groups and begun rehearsing, anyone who wants to join in on this fundraising effort can still get started now! Students can perform solo or in a group of up to 10 total carolers. Here are the guidelines for caroling:
- Caroling groups should choose a location, date, and time and reserve a time one one of the sign-up sheets
- Caroling groups and parent volunteers must sign up for a location and time slot at least 24 hours beforehand!
- Sign up to carol outside of The French Oven (10299 Scripps Trail)
- Sign up to carol outside of Walter Andersen Nursery (12755 Danielson Ct, Poway)
- Music for this type of fundraising activity has been provided to all Intermediate/Advanced Band/Orchestra students in their Google Classroom
- Dress code is simple and informal: dress in clothing appropriate for the weather!
- MMSIM t-shirts, polo shirts, and/or hoodies are encouraged!
- Festive accessories such as Santa hats, reindeer antlers, elf ears, etc. is encouraged!
- You must provide your own music stand (and chair, if necessary)
- Feel free to bring other decorations or signage if you wish
- If you don’t own a music stand, here’s a standard foldable wire music stand or a here’s a more deluxe version with extra accessories and capabilities
- You may also borrow one from the classroom if need be
- There must be at least one adult present throughout each caroling session
- Only adults should handle cash/change/check donations at each caroling session
- After Winter Break, a student can deliver the collected physical donations to Mr. Brown at school in a sealed envelope
- Some donation collection receptacles are available in the classroom, but you are free to make your own
- Each caroling group must display a stand with an identifying sign and digital donation QR code/link on it
- Physical copies are available in the classroom
- Stands can be borrowed from the classroom and returned to the classroom after Winter Break
- It is recommended that a caroling session last about an hour, but can go longer or shorter as needed or desired
- Another caroling fundraising opportunity is performing at holiday parties!
- Be sure to let your friends know that MMS musicians are ready to perform at parties in exchange for a donation!
